COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Installation

What are joists?

Joists are the pieces of wood or metal that support the floors in a building. The ceiling is also normally attached to them. X-Pole uses pressure to stabilize it so it needs to be positioned against two joists.

How do I locate joists?

Joists can be located by either tapping across the ceiling with a knuckle or with an electronic stud finder. With a knuckle you tap across until a more solid sound is heard - this is a joist or beam. A hollow sound is the space between the joists. A stud finder will locate the joist electronically (see what is a stud finder).

What is a stud finder?

A stud finder is an electronic device that lactates solid objects such as joists, beams etc. It senses changes in density of the material it is measuring and either 'beeps' or lights an LED.

What if I have vaulted ceilings?
The X-Pole is not adapt to fit a vaulted ceiling. They are working on designing an adapter but it hasn't been released yet. The X-Pole needs to be set up against a flat surface. Popcorn style ceilings are ok.

Can I set up my pole on carpet?
Yes, the X-Pole can be set on carpet or a hard surface like hard wood, concrete or laminate floors.

What is the difference between the 50mm (2in) and the 45mm (1.75in)? These measurements are referring to the diameter/thickness of the pole pieces.

Beginners often like the 45mm (1.75in) because it is a little easier to grip with your hands. Also, if you are very petite with small hands you might rather have the 45mm.

The 50mm (2in) is the industry standard size diameter. Although it might be a little more difficult to grip with your hands as a beginner, as you progress into intermediate to advanced climbs and inversions it is actually easier to grip with your legs.

What is the difference between Chrome and Titanium Gold? This is referring to the finish and color of the pole.

Chrome is silver in color and is a good general use pole for both spins and inverts.

Titanium Gold is gold in color and has an electronically coated surface that increases the grip. It is made to emulate the grip of a brass pole and is ideal for climbs and inverts.

It is really all a personal preference, but it’s recommended that you choose the pole that is closest to the one that you have used, currently are using, or plan to use.
